Microsoft Might Allow Users Buy Xbox With Bitcoin Based On Poll
Many industries globally are looking to facilitate more convenient payment schemes for their users, which led to many polls and suggestions on other payment means apart from the traditional form. One of the frequent suggestions in those polls is cryptocurrencies, as the digital asset industry continues to grow impressively. Microsoft is part of those industries toying with the idea of introducing crypto payments in this continuously growing technology era.
While Microsoft’s founder, Bill Gates, is not very keen on cryptos, such as Bitcoin. The philanthropist had explained that the asset is frequently used for illegal activities and that he prefers government-issued digital assets. Despite being an outstanding innovator, Gate does not see Bitcoin’s potential and would not invest in it.
Microsoft conducts alternative payment poll
Microsoft, one of the world’s largest tech companies, might be the latest company to support crypto payments. While nothing is confirmed, sources shared that the company is considering Bitcoin as an alternative payment method for the purchase of Xbox, a gaming console.
The poll conducted on the online store tried to get users’ opinions on their preferred alternative payment means, and Bitcoin is one of the listed alternatives. The firm asked the source her one view on Bitcoin as an alternative method, which could mean that Microsoft would soon include Bitcoin as one of its options.
This recently conducted poll caused some excitement on Reddit as many crypto enthusiasts saw the online store’s plan as a means to improve Bitcoin’s adoption. The polls were not released to the public, but insider participants programs were able to participate in the recently organized poll. Interestingly, this is not the first time Microsoft had toyed with the idea of having Bitcoin as a payment option.
Some years ago, the firm allowed American Microsoft users to purchase various Windows products with the digital asset. But for now, it is yet to support cryptos for its Xbox store, and this new poll might put that in place.
Microsoft is unlikely to buy Bitcoin
Although Microsoft could adopt Bitcoin as an alternative payment option, it’s unlikely to buy cryptos as an investment plan like many other institutional firms. The firm’s CEO, Brad Smith, revealed that Microsoft had not made arrangements to buy digital assets, such as cryptocurrencies.
Gates also has a similar perception as Smith, as he believes that Microsoft is unlikely to buy Bitcoin as an asset for the company’s treasury. While explaining that he is indifferent about Bitcoin, he advised people not to purchase the asset due to the investment class’s risk.
Bitcoin is currently one of the world’s largest assets, and this has won the hearts of many investors interested in recording higher profit margins within a short time. Tesla’s investment continues to draw criticism, as many believe that the investment was reckless and could significantly cause the collapse of a young business. Being one of the most popular crypto investors, Elon Musk would likely hold the asset for the long-term to ensure larger profit margins.
