Tesla Could Accept Shiba Inu (SHIB) as Payment Based on Website Leak
Rumors are circulating that Shiba Inu (SHIB) could be accepted as a payment option by Tesla. This will be good news for investors in crypto which has been a controversial meme Token. The origin of the rumor can be traced to an analysis of the source code of Tesla’s website which shows Shiba Inu as a payment option. There is no official confirmation from Tesla on the addition of Shiba Inu as a payment option.
Shiba Inu Could Follow the Footsteps of Bitcoin
This has precedence when in February Tesla added Bitcoin as a payment option and also announced it bought BTC for $1.5 billion. Following the announcement by Tesla to add Bitcoin as a payment option, the crypto had a surge in the price of around 23% on the day of the announcement.
Some crypto pundits believe that the move by Tesla to accept Bitcoin as a payment option is the main factor that led to the mid-April highs in the price of Bitcoin. If the rumor is true regarding Tesla accepting Shiba Inu as a payment option then there is a chance that the crypto could see a similar surge in price following the official announcement by Tesla.
Shiba Inu had a bullish run in October with the crypto reaching an all-time high price of $0.00008850 while having close to 800% gain. Critics of the crypto consider these impressive numbers as a flash in the pan that will crash in a matter of time. Despite its critics, the crypto has been building its fundamentals and this was demonstrated recently by its Shiboshi NFTs which established an impressive 2 ETH price floor.
The chances of Tesla accepting SHIB as a payment option has been questioned by some experts. This is because the crypto is an ERC20 which isn’t a good payment option due to the high fees of the Ethereum network.
Evidence on the Acceptance of Shiba Inu by Tesla
Sawyer Merritt pointed out that the source code of Tesla’s website lists Shiba Inu under the inspect element section. Merritt says he isn’t certain of the implication of the discovery due to his lack of coding experience. Sawyer Merritt is the co-founder of Twin Birch which is a clothing line and he doesn’t have any cryptocurrency professional background. He is leaving the interpretation open since he isn’t a coder.
Following the tweet by Sawyer Merritt, a web developer looked at the code and confirmed that the domain posted by Merritt is legit. The coder also confirms that it looks as if Shiba Inu could be added to the payment gateway when users select crypto on the checkout process.
However, some are skeptical regarding the tweet by Merritt because the code says SHIBA instead of Shiba Inu or SHIB. Some consider it more reasonable for the coder to use SHIBA INU on the website if Tesla plans to include Shiba Inu.
