Argentina Creates Committee For State-level Blockchain Adoption

The Argentine government is moving forward with its blockchain plans. Per reports, the government has created a blockchain committee. The committee’s function is to develop a plan for blockchain adoption at the state level.

In a document released during the week, the government noted that blockchain technology has significant benefits presently and in the future.

Several countries apart from Argentina are also evaluating the integration of blockchain technology into their economy. Recently, the South American nation issued a guideline for blockchain technology.

The latest document also said the blockchain committee would function as a middleman in the state’s blockchain ecosystem. “The committee will foster a good government and the interoperability of blockchain tech,” the document added.

All the state agencies will form a group to develop blockchain-related policies and solutions. Meanwhile, the framework presented by the country recommends various use cases for blockchain technology. The government’s first area of interest is auditing.

Besides, several state government agencies are massive, which makes auditing a cumbersome task. The government believes blockchain technology will make the process transparent.

Creation Of Blockchain Identity

Another area the government is considering is citizen identification. The Argentine government believes blockchain technology might help prevent forging government papers and IDs.

There are projects in other countries examining the use of blockchain identity. For example, a city in Argentina, Buenos Aires, has shown great interest in establishing crypto and blockchain-based solutions since the start of 2022.

Currently, the city is running an Ethereum node experiment to evaluate the working mechanisms of Ethereum. In addition, this experiment will help the government to understand how to regulate crypto.

Last April, the city stated that it would allow its citizens to use crypto to pay taxes. This initiative is part of the city’s program to digitize some functions in the city.

Furthermore, Buenos Aires’ authority announced in August that it is working on a new blockchain-based platform. This platform will allow the city to upload citizens’ information to the blockchain.

According to reports, the government has been working on the blockchain platform, TangoID since March 2021. The city expects the blockchain system to become fully functional in January 2023.
