Microsoft Expands AI Scope Beyond OpenAI, Pursues Meta Alliance

Microsoft is set to partner with Meta as it secures its partnership with Meta. The newly established alliance will facilitate LLama 2 integration into the Azure cloud-computing platform. 

On Tuesday, July 18, Microsoft’s statement illustrated that it inked an alliance with Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta. The deal was made public during Microsoft’s annual Inspire event. It allows Meta to integrate its AI model LLama 2 within Microsoft’s Azure cloud-computing platform. 

Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella lauded the input of Meta in delivering innovative open models. He indicated that through the LLama, Meta realized the imagined potential of open-source and AI models. 

Nadella acknowledged the coincidence of LLama 2 joining Azure and Windows during an annual Inspire presentation. The executive indicated that developers already utilizing Microsoft’s Azure platform will access Llama 2 without incurring additional costs. 

Meta and Microsoft Stock Rally Fueled by the Alliance News

Microsoft capped the subscription fee to $30 per individual for enterprises already utilizing the Copilot for the Microsoft 365 suite. Nadella described Copilot as an AI-powered engine aiming to optimize productivity and creativity.  

The announcement of Meta’s alliance to integrate Llama 2 into Azure triggered a 5% rise in Microsoft stock. The unveiling of the new projects fueled the price rally to $362, as illustrated by MarketWatch data. According to MarketWatch data, the alliance sparked an unforeseen increase in Meta’s stock to realize $311 on Tuesday and $315 on Wednesday.

Meta’s Grows Interest in Artificial Intelligence

Meta – the holding company behind Facebook, Instagram, and recently Threads is leading toward the artificial intelligence segment after ditching the metaverse and nonfungible token (NFT) projects. The previous week saw Meta unveil CM3leon, a text-to-image model allowing users to leverage text prompts and generate images. Since May, Meta has portrayed unwavering determination to excel in the AI models. It announced the completion of a training AI model capable of identifying over 4000 languages utilized to translate religious texts.

Meta restated its determination to facilitate individuals to access information and utilize devices within their preferred language. The language-competent AI model attained the objective. 

Meta announcement in June featured the revelation of Voicebox AI, identified as a speech tool. Despite the successful tests, Meta held its release citing concerns regarding users leveraging it to orchestrate malicious motives. 

Microsoft Chief Executive Defends OpenAI as Irreplaceable Partner

Microsoft ruled out speculations that the deal with Meta signaled its exit from the lucrative partnership with OpenAI. Nadella clarified that Microsoft would sustain the relationship with ChatGPT’s creator.

Nadella reaffirmed support for existing relationships by indicating that Microsoft loves OpenAI. The executive emphasized that Microsoft’s platforms yield iconic and industry-shaping alliances. Microsoft’s partnership with the Sam Altman-led OpenAI satisfies such requirements.
