Ava Labs Rolls Out Avalanche Arcad3 to Help Web2 Game Developers Enter Web3

On Friday, Avalanche blockchain founder Ava Labs announced the launch of its program called Avalanche Arcad3, aimed at helping traditional game studios explore the opportunities in Web3. While making the announcement, the company revealed entertainment companies Guni and Gree as its early partners exploring the Web3 gaming space.

According to Ava Labs, its latest program will seek to connect Web2 game developers with blockchain gaming gurus and esports organizations building projects on Avalanche. In addition, it will offer guidance on how to stay compliant with the existing crypto regulations and how to integrate non-fungible tokens and prize pools into blockchain games.

What Motivated Ava Labs to Launch Avalanche Arcad3?

Ed Chang, Ava Labs Head of Gaming, says Avalanche Arcad3 is a result of the recent backlash faced by traditional game studios from gamers. Chang argues that most of these game developers lack guidance on how to market crypto integrations to Web2 gamers, who barely understand the blockchain space.

One of the game developers that encountered massive resistance is Assassin’s Creed publisher Ubisoft. Last year, the company released an NFT-powered game, Quartz, on Tezos, but its reception was widely negative. At the time, Web2 gamers accused Ubisoft of trying to expose them to an industry they considered to be full of scammers. Nonetheless, the game developer has continued to build more Web3 games, arguing that NFT-driven games are the future.

Several Web3 Companies Set to Participate in Avalanche Arcad3

Meanwhile, Chang is urging Web2 game developers to join the Avalanche Arcad3 mentorship program to explore the potential of Web3 gaming under the guidance of more experienced blockchain companies. As of this writing, several Web3 firms have shown interest in participating in the program. They include DeFi Kingdoms, Gunz, Shrapneel, Republic Crypto, Avalaunch, and zdao3.

Following the Avalanche Arcad3 launch, Gree’s CEO, Eiji Araki, said in a statement that the company was excited to take part in the program and looked forward to forging meaningful relationships with the existing Web3 game developers. Gree is already building its first blockchain game called Project Incursion. Araki believes interacting with experienced Web3 gaming firms through Avalanche Arcad3 will help Gree’s team build a proper game.
