Brazil Introduces Blockchain-Based National IDs for Its Citizens

Brazil has updated its administrative systems using the latest technology available in the world. The county is using blockchain technology to power the national digital identification system.

The upgrade to the blockchain as per the government officials is to increase performance, security, automation, and accessibility for the entire population.

Initial Phase of the Program

The government has started the initial phase of the technology in named cities such as Rio de Janerio, Parana, and Gioas. The state intends to implement the new tech for all citizens in the futures once the initial phase of the initiative is completed.

The project supervised by Serpro, the national data processing service of Brazil. This department uses a private blockchain network that shares database with revenue services registry called b-Cadastros.

Features of Blockchain-Based IDs

With the new technology, the citizens of the nation are going to have a national ID that is hosted on a blockchain network. At the same time, the blockchain will allow the administrators to perform searches, issuance, and modification of new ID cards and tax registration numbers for the holders.

Other states of the region are introducing more blockchain-based solutions for the benefit of its citizens. Extrimian CEO Guillermo Villanueva talked about the importance of this project for Latin American nation.

Serpro president, Alexandre Amorim briefed media about the importance of blockchain networks for upgrading their national identification project. He pointed out that the technology is going to enable immutability and decentralization as some of the important advantages of upgrading the state registry.

The citizens in the country will now hold National Civil Identity Cards (ICNs) as their government issued identification in place of the previous ID cards.

The users who sign up for the ICN will hold a card made of plastic that allows them to create a digital alternative on a secure blockchain network. The ICN holder will be granted a unique QR code technology for validation and confirmation of their digitized national identification.

At the same time, the users will be able to access the ICN database in the form of a private blockchain network when they switch to online public services.

Blockchain Technology Will Prevent Criminal Activities

At the same time, this upgrade is going to play an important role in the prevention of organized criminal activities. Another noteworthy advantage of this technology is the promotion of inter-government correspondence such as Federal Revenue.

Brazil consists of 30 states and switching to the blockchain will improve the communication between these administrative units.
