Catizen and Hamster Kombat Token Demand Could Disrupt the TON Network, Developers Warn
Over the past few months, tap-to-earn (T2E) games on Telegram have taken the blockchain world by storm, attracting millions of new users to TON (The Open Network). However, the network’s developers warned earlier this week that the growing number of users attempting to farm token airdrops announced by two popular T2E games, Catizen and Hamster Kombat, may cause problems for TON when it’s time to claim airdropped tokens.
Since the start of September, daily active users on TON have reached one million several times, with the network processing over ten million transactions daily. TON developers say Catizen and Hamster Kombat account for most of these transactions.
Who is Eligible for Catizen and Hamster Kombat Airdrops?
With over 34 million players, Catizen is the second-biggest T2E game on Telegram. Its creator said on Monday that nearly half of the players were eligible to receive an airdrop when the game’s native token, CATI, launches on September 20th.
Hamster Kombat, on the other hand, boasts over 295 million players. Of the figure, 86 million players actively engaged with the game in August. Hamster Kombat’s native token, HMSTR, will launch on September 26th. According to the game’s creator, all players are eligible for the airdrop, which will be conducted on TON.
TON’s Previous Failure and Its Cause
Ton-based projects like DOGs, Catizen, and Hamster Kombat have led to increased network activity, causing the Telegram-affiliated blockchain to experience downtimes. Last month, TON couldn’t process transactions for numerous hours.
At the time, TON developers said the issue was due to increased demand for the DOGs meme coin, a crypto project inspired by Telegram CEO Pavel Durov’s dog. As of this writing, DOGs is held by over 4 million TON users.
Meanwhile, TON core developers anticipate similar network interruptions ahead of the upcoming token launches. They, however, say they are prepared to respond to any arising issue as quickly as possible to ensure a seamless user experience.
Toncoin Overthrows TRON to Become a Top-Ten Token
Despite trending downward after Durov’s arrest a few weeks ago, Toncoin has surpassed TRON to take the tenth position. The achievement is attributed to rising interest in the T2E games on TON. As of this writing, Toncoin is valued at $5.52 with a market cap of $14.03 billion.
