The developers behind the Ethereum blockchain have announced plans to launch the Shanghai upgrade centered on the Sepolio testnet on February 28. The developers plan to activate their Shanghai-Capella network on February 28 from 4:04 am UTC. A statement issued on February 21 by the dedicated developers disclosed that epoch 56832 would host the upcoming Shanghai activation.
Unexpected Launching of Shanghai Upgrade on Sepolio Test Network
The attempt to cope with emerging technologies inspired the Ethereum developers to leverage their skills to improve crypto transactions. In September 2022, the developers teamed up to build innovative software, “The Merge”. The software development aimed at enabling the Ethereum network to be an energy-efficient platform.
The creative team named the project Shanghai-Capella due to its distinctive features that enable the network to shift to a proof-of-stake platform. Following the developers’ contributions, the team managed to integrate the execution software into the consensus layer.
Based on the February 21 statement, integration of the softwares mandated the team to work on improving the Ethereum layer Shanghai and the blockchain ecosystem Capella.
Why are the Developers Delaying the Launch of Ethereum Mainnet?
After successfully integrating the proposed software, the developers prioritized testing the system to attain the desired results. The developers aim at enabling the network validators to withdraw their Ethereum assets more effortlessly.
According to the report, the February 28 Shanghai-Capella activation will be the second upgrade on a public test network Sepolio. In their recent move, the developers tested the Shangai-Capella system on the Zhejiang test network at the beginning of February. During the Zhejiang testing, the developers identified bugs in the system, which have been fixed.
Additionally, after the February 28 launch, the developers revealed plans to test the system on the Goerli network. The Goerli testing will take place in March before the official launch of the mainnet.
At the moment, the developers have withheld further details concerning the Goerli’s launch dates.
A report from Ethereum Foundation head of DevOPs Barnabas Busa revealed that during the three main tests of the Shanghai-Cappella network the number of participants and network traffic analysis revealed the differences in testing.
