Nvidia Partner with US National Science Foundation to Advance Responsible AI Innovation
Leading chip manufacturer Nvidia confirmed partnering with the National Science Foundation (NSF) to unveil the pilot for enhancing artificial intelligence research. The alliance seeks to launch the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR), responsible for advancing AI discovery and innovation.
Nvidia has emerged as a world leader in chip manufacturing amid the prevalence of artificial intelligence. The NAIRR pilot envisions wider access to tools and resources necessary for AI discovery and innovation.
Nvidia Commits $30M in NAIRR Pilot
Nvidia affirmed its devotion to the project by committing $30 million as contributions towards the project spread across two years.
The partners seek to collect insights from multiple researchers using the platforms to enhance the technology’s effectiveness. Besides NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, the chip maker will contribute to the NVIDIA DGX Cloud AI supercomputing resources.
NAIRR is set to have ten additional partners spread across the US government. The key partners include the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
The NSF director Sethuraman Panchanathan hailed the collaborations realized on the NAIRR pilot, emphasizing the urgency to develop resources to ensure responsible AI in America.
The investment in AI research via the NAIRR pilot presents a critical opportunity to unleash the discovery and bolster US global competitiveness.
NAIRR’s vision aligns with providing researchers uninterrupted access to software, computing and data. The NSF’s Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure head, Katie Antypas, is optimistic that NAIRR will extend community access.
The NAIRR pilot unveils within the purview of the executive order released by President Joe Biden in October last year to guide AI release. The executive order directs NSF to facilitate the establishment of the NAIRR pilot within three months.
NAIRR Pilot Prioritizes Safe, Responsible and Trustworthy AI
In a recent update to the media, NSF disclosed that it plans to prioritize support for research-oriented research to advance safe, responsible, and trustworthy AI. NSF director clarified that it would deploy multiple approaches towards enhancing AI testing, assessment, and verification.
The NSF director announced that the NAIRR pilot will facilitate the discovery of means to improve the accuracy and reliability of the AI model performance. Doing so targets advancing the capacity to sustain the intended model behaviour.
The NAIRR pilot is posed to expand opportunities externally and ease AI research of privately owned laboratories and well-resourced universities. Besides, the pilot is set to support the computing and data resources for the university classrooms.
Nvidia Partners with Equinix
The NAIRR pilot comes as Nvidia announced partnering with Equinix on Wednesday, January 24. The alliance with the data center operator targets furnishing the later s corporate clientele with the supercomputing systems.
Nvidia founder and chief executive Jensen Huang indicated that generative AI harbours the potential to transform every industry. The executive urged enterprises to embrace the NVIDIA AI software and supercomputing system that will feature Equinix management for superior operational efficiency in data centres worldwide.
Huang hailed Equinix as a worthy partner in the quest of Nvidia’s pursuit of responsible supercomputing solutions. The California-based tech company has emerged as a world leader in global colocation data centres. As such, NVIDIA software will be integrated and accessible within the 248 data centres spread across 31 countries.
