Phil Spencer’s Controversial Opinion Of The Metaverse
The notion of the metaverse and the way it is implemented have drawn criticism from Phil Spencer, Chief of Xbox as well as director of games at Microsoft. The existing metaverse, according to Spencer, is like a poorly made videogame, but he said that the industry is still developing and will undoubtedly improve.
Xbox’s CEO criticizes new metaverse
While numerous businesses have tapped into the as-yet-undefined idea of the metaverse in an effort to capitalize on the benefit of being industry innovators, other prominent figures have critiqued the existing sector.
During the online conference of WSJ, Phil Spencer criticized the new metaverse technology, saying it was still in its infancy. Spencer described the current metaverse as a terrible computer game.
Many saw this as a subtle dig at Meta, who had previously come under fire for the subpar visuals of its popular metaverse software Horizon Worlds in comparison to contemporary video games.
Soon, Spencer clarified, saying that videogame artists have an extraordinary capacity to construct fascinating worlds that everyone desires to spend some time in; developing a multiverse is similar to a lounge room isn’t the way people want to use their time.
Spencer doesn’t, however, dismiss the idea of the metaverse yet though. The Entrepreneur thinks the multiverse will develop to resemble modern video games even if the business is still in its infancy.
Phil Spencer didn’t change his opinion for a while
Phil isn’t the only person to express doubt about the hype surrounding the idea of the multiverse at this moment. Spencer claimed in August that the multiverse was nothing fresh to him and that it’d taken over thirty years to develop, with 3D games playing a part inside this technology. He added that P2E business strategies were like a hammer seeking for a nail.
The NFT game concept has also been opposed by Spencer, who referred to it as exploitative and rife with “suppositions and experimenting.”
Microsoft said in January that it had paid 68.7 billion USD to acquire Activision Blizzard, claiming that gaming will play a significant role in the further development of multiverse platforms.
