Certik’s Platypus Breach: $9M Stolen!
For those unfamiliar with the breach, Certik, a blockchain security tool, shocked the crypto community last week after seeing strange behavior surrounding Platypus. It was discovered that at least one hacker used flash loans to steal $9 million from the DeFi network.
Stablecoins affected were Circle USD (USDC), Tether USD (USDT), and Binance USD (BUSD).
The bulk of the funds stayed in the hacker’s contract address, although some were transferred to other pools. Platypus then enlisted the assistance of Binance and ZachXBT in tracking down the funds and identifying the perpetrator.
After the discovery of the vulnerability, the blockchain security company BlockSec assisted in the recovery of $2.4 million USDC, while Tether froze $1.5 million USDT.
Platypus also declared that it would be returning at least 63% of the stolen funds to the users who were impacted by the breach. This transpired after the DeFi protocol was successful in recovering a portion of the missing cash.
Platypus Finance is a decentralized finance platform that is built on Avalanche. It offers a wide range of DeFi services centered on stablecoins.
