The United States of America witnessed a great tragedy after a white policeman killed George Floyd, a 46-year old black man in Minneapolis after he was charged with purchasing cigarettes with a fake $20 note. As regards the emergency call statement, the shop keeper reported to the police that a certain man had used a counterfeit note as payment for a good he purchased from him. After the call, police swarmed into the area where the victim lived, arrested him. According to evidence that was against what Derek reported to have happened, the video evidence showed that George didn’t try to resist arrest but was manhandled by Derek and his co-officers which led to his death.
The officers in question applied a brutal force in the mode of restraint after they pushed George to the ground, handcuffed him, and Derek was seen putting a knee on his neck region which led to the victim’s untimely death. The death of George Floyd was met with anger among the American community and the world as a whole which prompted massive protests against racism across America and the world as a whole. The police officers have been arrested, are awaiting trial in a court of law, and are currently facing charges for third-degree murder.
Would Bitcoin have prevented George Floyd’s death?
Asides the fact that George was killed unjustly and in a gruesome manner, the main culprit in the cause of the chaos was the spending of a fake dollar bill by the victim. If they were a mode of digital currency payment where he could have just paid using cryptos such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others, things wouldn’t have gotten this complicated. With the event that unfolded leading to George’s death, the majority of the American population has kicked against the act of racism that the black community has suffered for a long time in America.
