Bucella started off his career at Goldman Sachs in 2008, joining the company’s asset management division. This was the time when the financial crisis was at its peak, and many changes had to be made, whether it was evident or not at that time.
Leaving Goldman Sachs
Michael Bucella worked at Goldman Sachs for almost a decade before he made his switch to crypto investments full-time. He made this move in 2017 and left Goldman Sachs to join the crypto investment firm BlockTower Capital. It was a very hard decision to make at that time, but this move definitely paid off.
Michael Bucella said that he obviously saw what was written on his office wall, ‘Partner at BlockTower Capital’, when he first moved to the company. He thought at the time that crypto assets were going to become a very interesting and a very pervasive piece of technology.
Michael Bucella joined the asset management division of Goldman Sachs during the financial crisis of 2008, and it was a very bold move regardless of what the financial markets were going through. It was a time when the financial markets were very uncertain, and the economy was crippling. A lot of changes had to be made in order for things to get back to normal.
Bucella stated that he still remembers the day when he walked out of the door from Goldman Sachs to join the protestants against Wall Street. It was a surreal moment for him, and the emergence and growth of Bitcoin started from that time, according to him.
He worked at the asset management division of Goldman Sachs for a couple of years and then joined the securities department, which later became his forte. He loved that role, and he said that there were a minuscule amount of things for which he could leave that department.
Was It a Smart Move?
Mathew Gotez was the man who introduced Bucella to the crypto market in 2012. He took him to a couple of meetups, but Bucella wasn’t so sure about it back then. Bucella, when later offered the role, saw it as an opportunity of a lifetime and a risk worth taking, and it has surely paid off.
