Turkey And Russia Partner To Combat Criminal Crypto Transactions
Turkey and Russia have signed a joint partnership. In addition, both countries’ juridical and law enforcement agencies have signed an agreement to combat cybercrime.
In addition, both countries will work out ways to stop criminal-related crypto transactions. This agreement occurred after two of the country’s officials met in Ankara, Turkey’s capital.
Igor Krasnov, Russia’s Prosecutor General, and Bekir Bozdag, Turkey’s Minister of Justice, have entered a new partnership. According to a local news outlet, the officials have signed a two-year deal.
The deal will allow law enforcement agencies to partner to combat cybercrime. The report added that both nations would assess cases involving the illegal usage of digital assets.
The Prosecutor General opined that Russia had developed the necessary investigative and juridical practices. He added that the country is also updating its present legislation on crypto assets.
The official also mentioned that Russia’s digital Ruble project is still underway. Hence, the Russian official believes Russia has much to offer in the partnership.
Additionally, Krasnov mentioned a draft convention submitted to the UN in 2021. The draft concerns the usage of nascent technology in criminal activities.
According to him, Russia aims to criminalize several technologies. Such technologies promote bad ideologies and influence people and political regimes.
Krasnov also said, “Western nations ate narrowing the meaning of cybercrime. According to them, cybercrime only has to do with some computer-based crimes. However, the issue of cybercrime goes further than this,” the Prosecutor General added.
Russia And Turkey To Develop New Payment System
Meanwhile, Russia has been under heat due to Western-imposed sanctions on the country. The myriad of sanctions began after the country invaded Russia.
Many believed that Russia would turn to crypto to circumvent the restrictions. But instead, the country would likely use crypto solely for cross-border payments.
This came after Vladimir Putin banned crypto usage for payment in the country. However, Russia’s central bank and Ministry of Finance have greenlighted the use of crypto for cross-border transactions.
Nevertheless, recent Western sanctions have also targeted Moscow’s usage of digital assets to bypass imposed restrictions. As a result, Moscow’s access to international finances and markets has recently dropped.
Although Russian Mir cards were banned in several areas, some Turkish banks are still processing them. Other Turkish financial institutions had to restrict the usage of Mir due to US pressure.
