The United Arab Emirates’ foreign minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, expressed gratitude to Elon Musk for supporting the UAE field hospital in Gaza. The activation of Starlink’s high-speed internet service aims to enhance medical consultations through real-time video calling, as highlighted by the UAE foreign ministry. The collaboration marks an important milestone in UAE-Israel relations, which were normalized in 2020.
Challenges of Internet Connectivity in Gaza
Gaza has faced significant challenges with internet connectivity due to power shortages and lack of fuel necessary to operate provider centers. These challenges have hindered the efforts of medical staff and rescue teams, and have restricted hospital services as well as the health ministry’s centralized system.
