The United Nations displayed various NFTs that aligned with the theme of global climate crisis during its recent COP26 conference held in Glasgow. Bricx Martillo Dumas were awarded the best NFT among the NFT collections showcased at the event.
One of the partners for the event was Unique Network, and its CEO (Alexander Mitrovich) commended the initiative, saying, “We are convinced that NFTs will be human’s way of expressing themselves in the future. Hence, we are committed to letting the world know its potentials, especially in our quest to save planet earth.” Mitrovich further said that the Digitalart4Climate initiative shows the importance of blockchain technology in providing suitable solutions to climate change issues.
Assisting Digital Creators
Since they are created through blockchain technology, NFTs’ intrinsic value makes it possible to limit their supply. The NFT sector continues to grow in leaps and bounds, with recent data suggesting that NFTs’ secondary sales are over $10B. The UN hopes to use the digitalart4climate initiative to financially assist digital creators in creating digital works that can inspire each person, regardless of location, to move towards finding a solution to global climate issues.
Thus, enabling these creators to monetize their creative works in diverse ways. There has been the application of blockchain technology in other ways towards resolving climate issues. One notable example is the collaboration between two Spain-based firms (Acciona and climate blockchain initiatives (CBI)). CBI’s blockchain-based trading platform was used to promote the sale of Acciona’s carbon offsets. Carbon offsets lower the effects of climate change by compensating for greenhouse gas emissions occurring elsewhere.
Famous Soccer Players Launch NFT Series On Binance NFT Platform
Earlier in the year, the world’s leading crypto exchange, Binance, announced the launch of its NFT marketplace due to the rising interest in NFTs. Between that time and now, many people have launched their NFTs on that marketplace. Today, Binance announced that a new NFT series would soon be released, including the NFTs of veteran soccer stars Gabriel Batistuta, Alessandro del Piero, and Christian Vieri. They were popular while playing for various soccer clubs in the Italian Serie A championship.
Binance will release this latest NFT series in conjunction with TopGoal (a blockchain-built digital arts platform). The series known as the mystery box will contain digital works showcasing highlights from the careers of the players mentioned above.
The series is scheduled for launch next Monday. Also, part of the announcement states that each NFTs has been categorized into three (legendary, epic, and rare). Part of the activities for the launch includes an ask-me-anything session with del Piero, which Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao will host.
Outsiders to the NFT space might be surprised at the enormous amounts for which these NFTs are being sold. For context, Sotheby’s Cryptopunk generated almost $12m when it was sold in June. While Christie’s Bored Ape NFT series generated almost $25m two months ago. But insiders and NFT enthusiasts agree that these NFTs serve as symbols of an industry that is not yet fully evolved.
