University of California Receives Crypto Contributions to Pursue Airborne Pathogens Research
On March 7, the University of California (UC) based in San Diego received $15 million wired through crypto assets from the co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin. The funds received will be utilized to conduct extensive research on airborne pathogens that diminishes people’s quality of life.
Buterin worked closely with a team from Balvi Filantropic Fund to establish an Airborne Research Institute in San Diego.
Crypto Firms Supporting Research Institutes
A report published on the University of California website on March 7 revealed that the institution received the first crypto donation from Vitalik Buterin and his team. The institution plans to utilize the funds to develop effective strategies to mitigate airborne pathogens leading to respiratory complications in the US.
The report revealed that the institution would prioritize addressing the current outbreak of Influenza and related infections affecting the residents of San Diego.
A recent study conducted by researchers in the US revealed most of the flu-related cases witnessed in California are caused by climate change. Following Buterin’s funding projects, the institution is motivated to invest more in research to control the spread of airborne diseases in affected areas.
Buterin’s Contribution to Community Projects
Per the UC report, the March 7 sizable crypto donation was sent by one of the Buterin-led projects, Balvi Filantropic Fund. The Balvi team funneled the funds through the USD Coin that will later be exchanged for fiat currencies on the Engiven platform.
Buterin was delighted to support the establishment of an airborne pathogen institution that will examine the cause, impact, risk and treatment of SARS-CoV-2 and other airborne diseases. His philanthropic move demonstrated that the crypto firms have engaged in community activities to support humanitarian efforts.
