US Air Force Plans To Own A Virtual Training Space Following Its New Application

Even though many top brands have been applying for metaverse trademarks in the last few months, the recent metaverse trademark filing application by the US Airforce takes the cake.

What The US Air Force Metaverse Trademark Application Entails

Per a Twitter thread by Mike Kondoudis (a licensed trademark legal counsel), the US Airforce’s metaverse filing is to own a virtual space for training purposes. Kondoudis added that the air force seeks to integrate virtual and real environments where trainees will receive some of their training in the virtual space and other parts in the real space.

As stated by the legal counsel, some of the training that the air force intends to carry out in the virtual environment include virtual-reality and operational-drills training. The US patent office (USPTO) received the air force’s filing last Thursday.

Some Details About The Air Force’s Virtual Training Space

Details are still sketchy regarding the full details of the air force’s application. The patent office only disclosed that the air force’s ‘spaceverse’ won’t have any security issues. It further said that there might be a closed environment where USAF pilots will be trained on virtual systems. Neither the USPTO nor the air force has disclosed whether the air force’s spaceverse will be completely independent of the terrestrial US space force (USSF).

The USSF has been in existence for three years with the primary objective of training, planning, and arming a special group of persons for space wars where there is a need to protect the country’s interest in that environment. There has been a huge spike in the number of NFT-related metaverse trademark filings in the last five months. A recent data by the USPTO states that the number of such filings it received in 2021 was 423 more than the ones it received in 2020.

Kondoudis also disclosed that the USAF isn’t the only government establishment filing an application for a metaverse space. The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) also made its filing the same day as the USAF, naming it ‘CBOE digital.’ The goal of the CBOE is to have a trademarked virtual exchange platform for all things crypto including NFTs.

The Number Of Metaverse-Related Patents Keeps Rising

While the USAF and CBOE applications headlined the news, a popular beer and brewery firm (Anheuser-Busch) also applied for a metaverse-related patent, called ‘Budverse.’ Part of the filing description reveals that Anheuser-Busch seeks a virtual environment where it can sell NFT versions of beverages and other products in its product line such as the Michelob.

On April 12, the UPS also applied for a metaverse patent that allows the transport of goods in the metaverse space. Goods included in this list are sports items, clothing, labels, packages, bar codes, and parcels. As previously reported on Tokenhell, Mastercard also applied for 16-metaverse-related patents a couple of weeks ago. Other popular brands such as Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and KFC are making similar moves to own a space in the virtual ecosystem.
