zkSync Layer-3 Prototype to Be Tested in 2023

The Chief Product Officer of Matter Labs, Steve Newcomb, spoke during a media interview. He said the Layer-3 launch will improve the Layer-2 solution’s performance.

Better Solutions

The new Layer-3 prototype is planned to solve Ethereum scalability problems. It is scheduled for further testing in the first quarter of 2023.

zkSync announced on the 10th of October that it is planning to deploy a new Layer-3 prototype. The prototype called “Pathfinder” is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. zkSync said it will be deployed for testing early in 2023.

zkSync is a Layer-2 Ethereum scaling solution. It is designed to reduce the cost of using the network. Its version 1.0 was launched in June 2020 while getting ready to launch 2.0 this month.

The zkSync team explained the full plan of the prototype launch via a blog post. It said the Layer-3 prototype will demonstrate a ZK rollup like a Layer-3 fractal Hyperchain. It will also make use of recursive scaling.

The post said it will serve as a public experimentation foundation. It will also be useful in research and the development of Layer 3 solutions.

There are 18 days left to launch zkSync 2.0. The post said the platform is thrilled to reveal another great milestone ahead. It said although Layer-2 has a 10-100 times performance increase, Layer-3 has no limits.

zkSync’s Dedicated Ecosystem

zkSync has stated its plan to build an ecosystem of Layer-3. It will have customizable connected blockchains. The blockchains so designed are referred to as Hyperchain.

The team said its Layer-3 protocol will create opportunities to improve areas of the blockchain. These include customization, security, and scaling.

It equally adds to the platform’s expected launch of its Layer-2 network compatible with the EVM. It is scheduled for the 28th of October.

The zkSync team is said to be looking forward to high scalability, according to Newcomb. The solution will be 10 to 100 times on Layer 2. But Layer 3 is where things are cheaper, faster, and usable.

Layer 3 is where the game changer is. And the reason why this is different from Polygon is about the time. Getting Layer 2 is of less performance than zkSync, Newcomb said.

After zkSync layer 2 launches this month, there will be a month test period. It is after that decentralized apps can launch. zkSync team expects up to 150 projects to launch on it.
