Unidentified Bug Shuts Down The Services Of Solana
Solana has taken to its official medium page to release a blog post stating that its services are up and running after a recent bug attack. The network was forced to shut down and stay offline for close to six hours as its team of developers battled with a bug infection.
During the period that Solana’s services were down, all transactions were kept pending as they could not be validated at that point. Even though Solana’s systems are now up and running, the network has said it has still not been able to identify the bug.
Service outages led to massive amounts of unconfirmed transactions
In its statement on its page of the open writing platform, Medium, Solana said that its systems stopped producing new blocks after its slot at 53,180,900. With the block production halted, massive amounts of transactions were left unconfirmed on the network.
With the system going offline, Solana’s developer team swung into action, and with the help of about 200 validators on the network, they were able to reset the network. The reset came after six hours after the system was offline, and with everything back to normal, activities were up and running on the network.
The Solana team has said that they will conduct an internal review of things to determine where the problem emanated from. For now, Solana has not been able to pinpoint one area that might have disrupted its network.
According to Solana, they needed about 80% of their validators to help them reset their systems after it stayed offline for a very long time. Furthermore, Solana noted that acquiring the needed number of validators and executing the reset took a long time because they needed to be on board with their plan and next steps.
SOL token still performing well despite issues
The new update on the network came with mixed reactions from crypto enthusiasts on how Solana handled the situation. While many members of the crypto community lauded the network’s timely handling, others were not so impressed with their overall attitude towards the development. The majority of those that criticized Solana was from the Ethereum community and other protocols in the DeFi space.
They noted that Solana responded negatively to the development and even stressed that the network has always had various lingering issues. Even though some members of the crypto community came forward to assist Solana, most of the people that offered the best support were researchers and developers in the Ethereum foundation.
Leading the charge to support Solana was a famous member of the Ethereum Foundation, Nick Johnson. “It’s disappointing to see people turn on Solana because of its recent issues. Let’s not turn ourselves into Ethereum maximalists, especially with something, which could be our greatest undoing in the future.
Solana might take a very long time before it discovers what went wrong, but one sure thing is the number of proponents supporting the network. Backing up the network, its community did all they could to make sure the recent development was not felt regarding the price of the native token of the network, SOL.
