Americans Aid Anthropic Prepare a Constitution for Artificial Intelligence
The artificial intelligence creator collaborated with the Collective Intelligent Project to offer Americans a say concerning the behavior of future AI.
In an attempt to democratize the growth of artificial intelligence tools, Anthropic, Claude AI developer, partnered with Collective Intelligence Project, a non-profit, to assess another artificial intelligence (AI) development course.
AI Firms Collaborate to Foster Innovation
It surveyed 1,000 citizens to prepare an AI constitution. Divya Siddarth, the cofounder of Collective Intelligent Project (CIP), told a media outlet that artificial intelligence will transform the world. However, only a few individuals will decide what that seems like.
He said they intended to create processes to ensure that would no longer be true. The Collective Intelligence Project was introduced in January by Siddarth and Saffron Huang. Siddarth is a social technologist and political economist, while Saffron is a writer, researcher, and engineer.
The project seeks to achieve collective progress by promoting collective intelligence. In March, CIP and Anthropic collaborated for the Collective Constitutional AI strategy to create an artificial intelligence model using external inputs.
Besides, the two sought to establish how democratic processes can impact AI development. According to Siddarth, they intended to combine some of the work that has been executed in the democracy space and in the joint intelligence space surrounding what making appropriate decisions entails.
Additionally, there exists a lot of research concerning transformative technology, especially artificial intelligence, which they have been working on. In a blog post, Anthropic said 1,000 Americans were requested by the project to aid the fake intelligence inventor in picking regulations for the AI chatbot.
The sample size sought to represent the United States adults across gender, location, age, and income. Participants had two options: selecting from a regulations list or making their own. Despite a request for comment, Anthropic failed to respond.
Risks Associated with AI Technology
Anthropic said the participants contributed 1117 statements. They cast over 38000 votes on whether artificial intelligence must discriminate based on sexual preference or race. Despite having various opinions, a considerable consensus level on a majority of statements existed.
Despite the survey attempting to gather a diverse sample size, Siddarth admitted that in the future, experiments should go past tech-intelligent and wealthy citizens. She said that only persons in the United States are pretty constrained in terms of everyone globally.
Conversely, similar to several persons involved in technology creation, perhaps more values coincide with persons in the United States and other locations.
Siddarth claimed the CIP has partnered with competitor OpenAI, an AI developer, on more democratic artificial intelligence projects. Anthropic’s Claude artificial intelligence models were utilized in the AI Constitution project.
According to Siddarth, this is an excellent comparison since they take the already-trained Anthropic model and directly compare it to the same model. The Anthropic-trained model uses a constitution written by Anthropic writers.
The experiment’s astonishing finding entails the numerous statements claiming the artificial intelligence model must not discriminate based on disability. They were not incorporated in the Anthropic constitution.
Siddarth said they planned not to have it there. It was not only something they ultimately highlighted, which was considerably stressed. Anthropic was introduced in 2021 and is one of the developers striving to introduce quicker and more improved AI to the market. Firms such as Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Google have spent billions on generative artificial intelligence developers. As such, this year has been rewarding for artificial intelligence creators.
For example, in February, Google made public an investment of more than $400M in Anthropic. Amazon’s $4B investment in Anthropic last month followed this investment.
High Profile Tech Firms Invest in AI Development
Following a meeting with the Biden Administration earlier this year, Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and Microsoft promised to create artificial intelligence sensibly. Examples of additional firms include Meta, Amazon, and Inflection. Last month, Nvidia, Salesforce, Adobe, IBM, Scale AI, Stability AI, Palantir, and Cohere also took part in the promise.
Despite the Constitutional AI experiment restrictions, Siddarth is confident about the Collective Intelligence Project’s future, democracy in artificial intelligence, and seeking to incorporate additional public input into the emerging technology’s development.
She claimed the aim is to execute more processes and learn from what they have already done. Additionally, they are partnering with various policymakers, civil society groups, and other companies to ensure success.
