Australian Research University Announces New Postgraduate Program in Blockchain
Australian university announces to offer graduate certificates in blockchain and cybersecurity. RMIT University rolls out these two new postgraduate programs in collaboration with tech giants, including IBM, Stone & Chalk, and Palo Alto Networks.
According to the press release published on May 26, the respective programs are set to start in October 2020 and will run for nine months. The decision is taken keeping in mind the rising potential of the two sectors: cybersecurity and blockchain.
Graduate Certificates in Blockchain and Cybersecurity
The COVID-19 makes it necessary for every sector to make things digital, which in turn creates a shortage for professionals to tackle challenges in going digital. The main purpose of offering the graduate certificate in the blockchain is to equip certificate holders with blockchain understanding and its effectiveness in the financial sector as well as in the Australian business sector. On the other hand, the postgraduate program in cybersecurity will empower students with potential skills and techniques in cybersecurity such as international orientation, cybersecurity spanning strategy, communication, critical analysis, leadership, problem solving, and ethics.
Professionals in Blockchain and Cybersecurity are in Demand
In a survey conducted before pandemic by PWC, the annual blockchain growth rate will increase to more than 80% by 2025. Another research shows that 84% of tech-aware executives expected to apply blockchain technology to their business, but only one in 20 managers could easily source the skills they needed to do so.”
According to AustCyber, the cybersecurity industry in Australia will enlarge to A$6 billion by 2026. Accenture Cost of Cybercrime study reveals that “the total cumulative value at risk from cybercrime between 2019 and 2023 is forecast to be US$5.2 trillion” and each organization in Australia will lose US$6.79 million annually.
RMIT Online CEO Helen Souness said:
“The unpredictable nature of our current environment requires us to strengthen and accelerate our understanding of the digital landscape. Cybersecurity and blockchain technologies are emerging as business-critical skills and we are delivering the training that provides those skills in our workforce.”
The head of the blockchain for IBM Australia and New Zealand, Rupert Colchester, stated:
“Students will also be able to build more transparent supply chains which can be used across a number of industries ranging from the financial sector to fast moving consumer goods.”
