Belgian Regulatory Authority FSMA Is Regulating Cryptocurrency Exchange Services

The latest rule implemented on the behalf of the financial regulatory organization of Belgium, the FSMA (Financial Services and Markets Authority), requires the registration of the services provided by custodial wallets and crypto exchanges across the region within a clear deadline. Commencing from 1st May, the legal bodies and individuals that intend to offer custodial wallets or crypto exchange facilities across Belgium will need to have registration beforehand, as per the information issued on the behalf of the FSMA.

The Belgium-based crypto businesses having been running in advance of this formal declaration are directed per law to inform the FSMA regarding their operations within a couple of coming months, till 1st July. Apart from revealing activities, a time of nearly four months has been provided to the already present businesses to get registered under the financial regulator as regulated businesses.

To keep up dynamic registration under the FSMA, the providers of crypto services are instructed to meet seven conditions taking into account being established as firms with the least capital of up to $52,725 (approximately EUR 50,000). After the completion of an effective registration, the providers of crypto services will be given an exclusive registration number, also known as the firm number.
