BitConnect Coin Promoter’s Wife’s Death Sparks Controversy

In 2018, John Bigatton, a renowned promoter of the crypto project, BitConnect Coin, lost his wife after allegedly falling off a cliff in Australia.

Although police authorities termed the death a suicide, several theories are currently floating around on the actual cause of her death. A popular podcast streamed on January 17th claimed that the couple could have faked Madeline Bigatton’s death.

Others among the family and victims of BitConnect alleged that the husband might have murdered her to conceal his crimes.

What Happened With BitConnect?

BitConnect Coin (BCC) was once a successful cryptocurrency, often compared to BTC and ETH. John Bigatton was a major promoter of the coin. However, as regulators began investigating and investors lost trust, BCC’s value dropped dramatically.

The creators of BitConnect abandoned the project, leaving investors with significant financial losses. Additionally, the promoters of the coin faced backlash and legal action from those negatively impacted by the coin’s failure.

In May 2021, reports revealed that the US SEC sued five persons for promoting BitConnect. According to the regulator, the individuals sold unregistered securities, breaching the US securities laws.

Later that year, the US DoJ sold seized crypto worth over $56 million to compensate victims of the fraudulent scheme. Madeline went missing on March 25th, 2018, after she left the family’s Carss Park suburb mansion in a car.

Theories that Madeline was either murdered or still alive arose due to John’s odd behavior and the fact that her body was never found despite crashing waves at the spot of her alleged suicide. Furthermore, John’s rude and dismissive behavior towards Madeline’s uncle further fueled these theories, as well as his holding a large family party just one week after her disappearance.

Is Madeline Alive?

Some speculations argued that Madeline was thinking of leaving her husband or reporting him to the authorities. So, they believe that he killed her and made it appear as a suicide.

Another theory supported by some of the victims of the BitConnect scam is that the couple, Madeline and her husband, orchestrated a fake suicide. The idea behind this theory is that Madeline is alive and in hiding, protected by her husband, who is well-versed in moving and concealing funds taken from victims of the BitConnect project.

In November 2022, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) charged her husband, the main suspect in the BitConnect scam, with six counts of investment fraud. He faces a potential sentence of about fifty years in prison.

According to ASIC, the trial for John is scheduled to commence in July 2023. Additional information about Madeline’s whereabouts may come to light during the trial.

Meanwhile, several strange deaths continue to trouble the crypto sector, including that of four billionaires in the crypto space who died in suspicious circumstances within a month. These individuals include the co-founder of MakerDAO, Nikolai Mushegian, and alleged crypto fraudster Javier Biosca.
