Bitnodes Data Shows Germany Runs More BTC Nodes Than United States

As of today, Germany has officially overtaken the United States regarding the number of Bitcoin nodes for the very first time. According to the most recent reports, there are over 10,000 listening Bitcoin nodes all over the world, which refers to the nodes which enable incoming connections. Out of these, 1,833 currently reside in Germany, whereas 1,821 are in the United States. France comes in third place with 549 and China only has 152, although that is to be expected as China continues its crackdown on all things related to cryptocurrency in the country.

This is not the first time that Germany had challenged the United States’ dominance, as back in 2019, the country had come to close to surpassing the U.S, however, at the time, the United States had 2,400 nodes and Germany had 1,900.

The fall of the U.S

One of the biggest reasons as to why the aforementioned development has occurred has mostly to do with the fact that the United States is still on the fence regarding cryptocurrencies. Although a sizable portion of the country’s population supports Bitcoin and believes in what cryptocurrencies can do for the nation’s economy, the U.S government remains hesitant and cautious, and there have multiple occasions where it has actively tried to shut down the entire industry altogether.

What is even more impressive is that compared to the United States, the population of Germany is about 4 times lower and the German economy is about 5 times smaller. Despite this, the European country was able to successfully overtake the U.S. This could also be due to the number of American nodes falling by approximately 700, whereas Germany has managed to hold the line.

How did this happen?

At the moment, it remains unclear as to what the nodes are actually being utilized for as it is quite possible that it could be on a micro level wherein someone could be playing around with Bitcoin in a basement, or the nodes could instead have been used by Coinbase and other global entities on a macro level.

No matter what the case may be, however, it is becoming abundantly clear that Germany has become a relatively under-appreciated and under-valued coding powerhouse, which is partly because of a number of American leet coders choosing Germany instead of the U.S due to the latter’s strict regulations and piracy laws.

It is common knowledge by this point that the United States is not exactly completely supportive of the crypto industry, which has resulted in a considerable backlash in the past that also continues to this day. In fact, a number of cryptocurrency-based companies have begun banning the U.S from being able to partake in the industry, which some have since stated has resulted in a rather restrictive and limiting atmosphere in America.
