Bitcoin ATM heists are one of the most puzzling kinds of theft, but they continue to happen. Individuals have often attempted to steal these machines in the hopes of getting their hands on the digital assets contained in them. A recent Bitcoin ATM heist was carried out in Canada, which resulted in significant damage to a deli. This was because the thieves ended up botching the operation and this resulted in a big mess. According to local news sources, two suspects in the city of Kelowna had tried to steal a Bitcoin ATM that was located in a neighboring deli. The theft appeared to be poorly planned and was executed in the early hours of October 7th.

According to the police report, the two thieves were successful in prying the ATM machine from its wall encasing. However, they broke the whole front door of the L&D Meats and Deli, when they were backing up their white GMC pickup truck. After making a mess in the establishment, the two culprits attempted to make a quick escape. They floored the accelerator to flee from the scene, but ended up leaving the truck’s tailgate behind. In their hurry to leave the scene, the robbers also ended up leaving the ATM machine behind.

A spokesperson for the police explained that even though they had caused thousands of dollars in damages, it didn’t appear as if they have taken something from inside the deli and the suspects couldn’t make away with the Bitcoin ATM either. The store’s owner, Don Favell shed some light on the timing of the theft and said that it had been close to the Thanksgiving holiday. He said that his clients were expecting their pre-ordered meat, so he didn’t really have time to look after a damaged store or deal with the repairs.

Regardless, he said his business would resume operations soon because the damages would be covered by insurance. As far as the burglars are concerned, the police said that they will use the tailgate for tracing the car. Such ATM robberies are not exactly a new thing. It was reported by Castanet last year that an ATM theft had taken place in Vernon, Canada. Two men had stolen money from a Bitcoin ATM after breaking into a Simply Delicious Food Market. The report explained that the robbery had taken place in the early hours of the morning on November 19th and robbers had made away with $4,000 from the machine.

However, the robbers had missed a canister containing $50,000 in their hurry to flee from the scene. The store’s owner, Tory Roland also stated that the security cameras could provide footage of the men and it had also managed to capture their vehicle’s license plate as they escaped. The robbers had gone straight to the ATM and had not taken anything from the store. This led to the impression that they were professional and knew exactly what they were after. After suffering from this loss, Roland said that they would be removing all ATMs from their premises.
