It seems that the rivalry between Cardano and Ethereum is getting personal with the representatives of these two networks recently clashing on Reddit where Charles Hoskinson, the founder of the Cardano network, said that the Ethereum community and developers refused to look at the Ouroboros protocol which the PoS mechanism employed by Cardano.

The truth is out there

Charles Hoskinson may be a little harsh when he is talking to his peers, but there is a grain of truth in his words. The Merge was necessary because the network was initially flawed and required upgrades which is what switching to the PoS mechanism was all about. However, it should have happened earlier with other PoS networks catching up rapidly and many having better foundational designs.

Hudson Jameson of Ethereum Foundation replied to comments from Hoskinson by saying that Ethereum will never work with networks like Cardano whose leaders are not showing any tact when dealing with competitors. Interestingly, the beef between Ethereum Foundation and Hoskinson has roots in 2014 when Hoskinson and Buterin had creative disagreements about the future of the now second-largest blockchain network. Ultimately, he parted ways with Ethereum and, later, Ethereum Classic.

The firing of Hoskinson had some visibly personal connotations not only because of his disagreements with the founder Vitalik Buterin but also due to some remarks made by Evan Ness, a web3 investor familiar with the matter. He said that Charles was not an integral part of the team and did not contribute meaningfully to the development process.

Is it too personal to be professional?

It seems that Ethereum developers and Charles Hoskinson simply do not have the gut to put away their differences and start cooperating. Cardano is a project that has been among Ethereum’s competitors for several years and it has been working hard to develop new features and expand the network as rapidly as possible. It does not look like Cardano wants to cooperate. It wants to shove it in the faces of Ethereum developers so that it can be better. Hopefully, they can both survive and fight off Algorand.
