Following a month-long battle against the present exploit, Multichain (a cross-chain router platform), declared to have recovered almost 50% from the cumulative stolen funds (having a worth of up to $2.6M in crypto). The group has also issued a compensation offer to settle the losses of the consumers.
On 10th July, Dedaub (an expert in blockchain security) cautioned Multichain regarding two weaknesses in the liquidity pool as well as the router contracts thereof, influencing eight digital assets including AVAX (Avalanche), MATIC (Polygon), WBNB (wrapped BNB), as well as WETH (wrapped ETH).
A week after on 18th January, the consumers were advised on the behalf of the team of Multichain to cancel the approvals for smart contracts that are at risk, for immediately controlling the damage. Nevertheless, it was reported earlier that the cautionary declaration persuaded the hackers to attempt exploiting the platform, causing nearly $3M in losses. As per Multichain, the weakness in its liquidity pool was resolved by incorporating an upgrade to the liquidity of the tokens to turn them into unique contracts.
Nonetheless, the hazard is still for those consumers who have not canceled approvals for the vulnerable router contracts. Significantly, customers themselves need to cancel the respective approvals. On 18th February, it was reported on the behalf of Multichain that approximately 4,861 from the cumulative 7,962 influenced consumers have had canceled their approvals whereas the rest of the 3,101 addresses were advised to take the measures in the near possible time.
From 833.4191 AVAX and 1,889.6612 WETH stolen funds, the group was capable of recuperating 125 AVAX and 912.7984 WETH (having a worth of almost $10,000 and $2.55 million respectively), as confirmed by the platform. To obtain the compensation for the losses, the consumers have been asked on the behalf of Multichain to cancel their approval along with submitting a ticket over the official website of the venue.
Netflix (a giant in the streaming industry) will shortly develop as well as release a documentary series featuring a unique couple from New York who get engaged in laundering BTC (Bitcoin) associated with Bitfinex hack. The director of the respective documentary will be Chris Smith (a filmmaker from America) and the co-executive producer of the series will be Nick Bilton. In the declaration, it is mentioned that a documentary series has been ordered on the behalf of Netflix to cover the alleged scheme of a married couple for laundering billions of dollars in stolen crypto.
