Darkweb Actors to Start Selling A Database Of Gemini And Binance Users Soon

The Darkweb threat actors intend to start selling this database soon. Gemini has launched an XRP cashback rewards program for its credit card users.

Darkweb Threat actors, who claimed to have thousands of Gemini and Binance users’ records, including names, passwords, and location data, are putting up the lists for sale online. In a blog post published recently, the Dark Web Informer, a Darkweb online news site, stated that the most recent sale was from a threat actor going by the handle AKM69, who had an extensive list of sensitive data belonging to users of the popular cryptocurrency exchange Gemini.

The Dark Web Informer claimed that the database for sale contained 100,000 records, including the complete names, phone numbers, emails, and location data of people from the United States and a few records from Singapore and the United Kingdom. The threat actor classified the listing as a component of a more extensive campaign to sell consumer data for fraud, recovery targeting, or cryptocurrency marketing.

According to Dark Web Informer, another user, kiki88888, allegedly tried to trade Binance emails and passwords a day earlier. The hacked data reportedly contained 132,744 user information.

Binance Claims that Phishing is The Cause of User Information Leak

Meanwhile, Binance claimed that user information on the dark web does not result from an exchange data leak. Instead, a hacker used malware to compromise browser sessions on compromised PCs to gather such data.

In a follow-up post, the Dark Web Informer agreed that some users need to stop clicking random stuff, indicating that most data theft was caused by a hack of the user’s device rather than a Binance breach. According to rumors, a hacker going by the username FireBear claimed to have a database containing 12.8 million records taken from Binance in a similar case last September.

The records included residence addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, last and first names, and birthdays. However, Binance rejected the hacker’s assertion that they had sensitive user data following an internal review by their security team.

This month, users of leading cryptocurrency exchanges have been the victims of other cyber threats. Federal authorities in Australia announced earlier this month that they had to notify 130 individuals about a communication scam that targeted cryptocurrency users and used the same “sender ID” as reputable cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance.

Many X users have reported receiving a similar series of scam emails that posed as Coinbase and Gemini to fool users into creating a new wallet using recovery phrases that the scammers had pre-generated and controlled.

Gemini Exchange Announces 4% XRP Cashback Rewards for Credit Card Users

Meanwhile, users of Gemini’s cryptocurrency exchange credit card can now receive up to 4% cashback incentives in XRP whenever they make purchases, thanks to a special promotion by the crypto company. Hence, Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss called on the larger XRP community to use the exclusive deal on X.

In 2022, Gemini partnered with Mastercard to launch this reward-based credit card. The cashback reward program also supports Bitcoin and over 50 other cryptocurrencies.

Notably, anytime they make transactions at any Mastercard-powered merchant, Gemini Credit Card users can select XRP as the asset they wish to earn back. It’s important to note that in August 2023, Gemini first accepted XRP for the cashback program.

Tyler’s announcement seems to remind the members of the XRP community that using the Gemini Credit Card to make transactions still gives them XRP cashback benefits.

How to Participate in the Gemini Cashback Rewards

Before they can participate, users must first identify whether they are eligible for the offer. The crypto platform uses credit scores to determine eligibility.

Consumers can apply for the credit card by June 30, 2025. After qualifying, new cardholders who spend at least $3,000 in the first ninety days (or three months) will receive up to $200 in XRP cashback benefits.

Gemini allows users to profit from the digital asset’s possible price growth by depositing the XRP rewards straight into their trading accounts.

The cryptocurrency exchange also offers various reward categories based on credit card usage. Customers who spend up to $200 monthly can receive 4% back in XRP as they buy petrol at the pump or charge their electronic vehicles (EVs).

In addition, users who hit the $200 monthly threshold will receive 1% back in XRP on additional gas payments at the pump and electric vehicle charging stations during the month. Gemini provides 1% cash back on other purchases, 2% on food items, and 3% on dining costs.
