Elon Musk Endorses AMC’s Plan to Accept Dogecoin Payments

Dogecoin enthusiast and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has thrown his weight behind AMC’s plan to add the meme coin to its list of supported cryptos for payment purposes. In a tweet shared by AMC’s CEO Adam Aron on his page yesterday, he asked his followers whether they would like the popular cinema chain to add Dogecoin as a payment option. Surprisingly, 72.7% of 32,253 voters supported the adoption as of September 21, 6.31 p.m. UTC. However, 11% stated that adding the virtual currency would be a “waste of effort.” As of the time of this publication, 71.6% of the 96,242 total votes cast support the idea.
After seeing the massive result in the poll, Co-Creator of the meme coin Billy Markus encouraged his followers and the Doge community to like Aron’s tweet rather than just voting. According to Markus, this would lead to an even greater engagement. Markus’s motive is to attain a more massive number than recorded when AMC announced support for ETH, BCH, and Litecoin on September 16 on Twitter.
The largest cinema chain in the United States had previously revealed that the company was considering adding the flagship crypto Bitcoin to its payment options in August due to demand. He also stated that the company would consider integrating altcoin payments, which was later confirmed on September 16. According to the Leawood-based company, the cryptos will be accepted as a means for purchasing online tickets and making concession payments.
Tesla Made Similar Announcement Earlier This Year
Earlier this year, the billionaire announced that his company, Space X accepted Dogecoin for its lunar mission, known as DOGE-1, coined from Dogecoin’s trading name DOGE. The mission will be launched in 2022.
In May, Elon Musk asked his followers on Twitter about their opinions on adding Dogecoin payments to Tesla after canceling support for bitcoin payments due to high-energy consumption and climate concerns. Despite receiving a “Yes” from over 78% of the total votes, the EV company is yet to make a formal move on adopting Dogecoin.
It isn’t the first time that Musk is making remarks about the coin he once referred to as “Ancient Doges.” In early September, he praised the team of developer’s efforts who were working to improve the Dogecoin network. Musk had always emphasized the importance of upgrading the network, revealing how it would boost the network’s security and lower transaction fees. Billy Markus went ahead to release the initial update out of a two-part update.
