ETH should Bump up the Gas Limits to reduce its Network’s Congestion Problem, says Vitalik Buterin

The co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin has said that the Ethereum community should begin an online campaign which would help them to level up the gas limits before Ethereum’s upcoming fork that is Istanbul.

Buterin says that in order to bump the gas limits up and to solve the problem of network congestion, Reddit campaign and an active Twitter would suffice.

Problem of Network’s Congestion

Recently, since the last few weeks, Ethereum has been facing the issue of congestion. According to the current report, the ratio of the usage of the coin’s network has been 90% because of which it is now experiencing the problem of congestion.

A warning was also given by Vitalik saying that this utilization of ETH’s network in high ratio could cause transactions of a larger amount. As a result, it would discourage corporations and users to use Ethereum.

Increase the Gas limits and reduce Congestion

The solution which is given by the co-founder of Ethereum is that in order to lower the problem of the network’s congestion, the community will have to increase the limits of Gas. It was also pointed out that Tether has also impacts on the ETH network and for this situation, developers are trying to use layer 1 and layer 2. But Buterin said that as long as it does not happen, the Ethereum network should focus on gas limits.

Vitalik Buterin also gave suggestions for how to raise up the gas limits and said that an online campaign would do the job in this case. As he said:

I’d recommend starting a Reddit/Twitter campaign to promote the cause of pushing the gas limits up. Historically the large mining pools have listened to community pressure,” Istanbul fork could allow more transactions with the same gas limit.

Support of Mining Pools

Ethereum already has the support of the two mining pools, F2pool, and Sparkpool which cover 40% of ETH and are in favor of increasing the gas limits up. Buterin said that the community would be needing the support of just one more mining pool. For this matter, he mentions two of the mining pools, Ethermine and Nanopool.

He concluded his argument in the following words:

It’s not clear that now is the best time; it could be better to do a bigger gas limit jump at the same time as the Istanbul fork when the opcodes that present the greatest risks will see their gas costs bumped up so higher gas limits become safer.

Conclusion

So it is clearly explained that before they go for Istanbul fork the ETH community should lessen the problem of the network’s congestion by increasing the Gas limits up.
