Ethereum Foundation aims to upgrade nodes right before Muir Glacier Upgrade
Ethereum foundation wants to upgrade nodes before going for the Muir Glacier upgrade that will be held on 1st Jan 2020.
Muir Glacier is the next upgrade for the Ethereum network and this upgrade is scheduled for 1st of January. Ethereum foundation announced that this scheduled upgrade will be held on block number 9,200,000.
Keeping in view this upgrade, the Ethereum foundation wants to upgrade nodes before the activation of Muir Glacier upgrade. As Ethereum Foundation has tweeted:
[IMPORTANT] Upgrade your nodes for the Muir Glacier upgrade happening on Jan. 1, 2020! See more here: https://t.co/hJRTHY9Gj1
— Ethereum (@ethereum) December 23, 2019
According to the Ethereum’s official blog post, it is important to upgrade firstly the latest version of Ethereum client and this job will be done carefully by node operators or miners.
The blog post further says that you do not take additional steps until your exchange informs you. As the official blog post says:
If you use an exchange [such as Coinbase, Kraken, or Binance], a web wallet service [such as Metamask, MyCrypto, or MyEtherWallet], a mobile wallet service (such as Coinbase Wallet, Status.im, or Trust Wallet), or a hardware wallet [such as Ledger, Trezor, or KeepKey) you do not need to do anything unless you are informed to take additional steps by your exchange or wallet service.
Ethereum Foundation announced Muir Glacier upgrade to be held on 1st Jan 2020 as Berlin hard fork was expected to be held in January. But because of the various block times and timezones, the final date for the upgrade may change. Earlier, Muir Glacier was expected to be held on 6th Jan 2020.
Previously, EIP 2384, the Muir Glacier’s improvement proposal had delayed the difficulty bomb for another 4 million blocks or 611 days. Ethereum Cat Herders said that this is the reason behind going for a separate upgrade. However, the Ethereum Foundation said that on 5th Oct, the difficulty bomb was started to rise again at block number 8,600,000.
