Famous Billionaire Thomas Peterffy Reveals His Investment In Cryptocurrencies

The Chairman and Founder of Interactive Brokers, Thomas Peterffy, recently made it known that he has bought a handful of cryptocurrencies from the market for himself. While he did not give any specific details as to what kind of digital assets he has purchased, the billionaire stated that he has nevertheless allocated a sizable portion of his overall wealth for crypto.

Despite the growth of the crypto industry itself, Peterffy also revealed that his company’s clientele had been actively demanding increased access to new digital assets services, and so he was only happy to provide this.

‘Playing the odds’

The Hungarian-American billionaire and businessman had participated in an interview with CNBC recently, during which he confirmed that he has now officially invested in crypto. Although Thomas remains a bit skeptical regarding what the long-term capabilities and future will be for the new digital asset class, he nevertheless admitted that with the industry’s rapid growth and market capitalization, it might end up becoming a dominant worldwide currency. Peterffy stated that while he personally does not think that the crypto market is going to be very viable for the long run, he does believe that there is a minute possibility of it becoming the aforementioned dominant currency. Therefore, he added, it is important to try and play the odds and see what happens.

The billionaire was not always willing to invest in crypto or even acknowledge it as being legitimate. He had previously claimed that Bitcoin (BTC) would do well to keep its distance from any ‘real economy.’ Now, Peterffy has said that given the industry’s track record and what it has managed to accomplish over the years, investing in crypto is a good idea; however, this is also largely dependent on whether regulatory authorities and governmental officials permit free trade as well as usage.

Cryptocurrency trading will be allowed

Interactive Brokers shall thus be launching crypto trading options soon due to the high demand from the customers wanting access to cryptocurrencies, which is something that Thomas believes is ‘completely understandable.’ These services could arrive as early as this summer’s end.

Peterffy maintained his stance that cryptocurrencies can be a beneficial investment. However, his firm will first need to provide the best kind of security for the customers beforehand when it comes to offering and working with digital assets. Safety is the top priority, for now, Thomas stated, due to cyber-attacks becoming increasingly common as well as the heightened volatility of crypto itself.
