Hacker ‘Not Interested In Money’ Returns $260 Million

A crypto hacker behind the massive heist on Poly Network has refunded $260 million from the stolen $613 million.

The recent crypto heist had Poly Network suffering around $600 million loss. However, what appears to be somewhat good news is that the attacker decided to repay almost half of the stolen funds.

That that came after Poly Network urged the hacker to ‘work out a solution.’

Surprisingly, the hacker responded, saying that he is not interested in cash.

Poly Network posted again on Twitter yesterday, Wednesday, confirming receiving $260 million of the lost money. The hacker sent the money through three different categories. They include:

As much as the attacker returned almost half of the stolen amount, the platform still suffers $269 million in ETH and $84 million in Polygon loss.

Elliptic co-founder Tom Robinson revealed that the hacker posted a Q & A session, interviewing himself.

A blockchain records all transactions completed with crypto, such as Bitcoin. Users across the network can access the distributed blockchain logo to verify new users.

The hacker admitted that they planned to refund the sum. They also stated that the hacking aimed to expose the weaknesses the Poly Network has.

The hacker declared that the heist was for fun. He also revealed that they selected Poly Network since ‘cross-chain hacking is hot.’

Bounty Due?

A portion of the scam refund came as “White hat hackers,” who utilize their software knowledge for good, tracked the thieves.

The reaction by hackers sparked a debate on whether the platform should allow the attacker to hold a portion of the amount. That would serve as a reward by Poly Network for the help to understand its weaknesses.

BinomialPool, a developer’s platform, promises a 5 to 10% bounty for uncovering the hacks through a tweet.

Paying attackers bounties for discovering bugs in online platforms is a usual thing in the tech space.
