Hive Blockchain Installing Intel-Powered Mining Machines

Bitcoin miner Hive Blockchain seeks improved computing power by deploying Intel-powered machines. The Canadian firm projects the newly installed devices where each can deliver 110 to 130 terrash/second.

HIVE declared through a January 13 update that its new machines would utilize the Blockscale chips with higher computing power.

Will Intel-powered Chips Break the Dominance?

The firm acknowledged that the new chips are set to break the dominance of MicroBT and Bitmain within the mining machine segment.

HIVE lauded the Intel chips as allowing the mining companies to customize their computing designs to suit their specifications. Enabling firms to align the designs relative to their requirements portrays a considerable departure from the existing manufacturers’ models.

Bitmain Power Unmatched

Hive Blockchain revealed that the initial set of 5800 machines acquired in late 2022 has an aggregate computing power ranging from 638 to 754 petahash/second (PH/s). The chief operating officer Aydin Kilic demonstrated that machines identified as BuzzMiners each yield 110 to 130 terahash/second (TH/s) per unit. However, he admitted that the machines’ computing power is below the latest model by Bitmain, including Antminer S19 XP and S19 Pro+ Hydro.

Meanwhile, Hive Blockchain is yet to release the power efficiency levels for the mining machines in its possession. Recently, the release of the primary metric in the mining segment has plunged the majority of miners into a decline from the strangling power costs. Intel has recently indicated its chips can deliver 26 joules/terahash efficiency.

By the standards, Intel chips are yet to match Bimain’s efficiency levels realized by the S19 XP series. Nevertheless, the chips match other models currently on offer to the miners.

Satisfactory Performance Levels of Intel Chips

Hive admitted installing over 1500 Intel-powered machines across its mining facilities located in Canada and Sweden. The miner’s spokesperson lauded their capability as they had satisfied the anticipated performance targets.

The miner’s press release on January 13 regretted the bearish trend witnessed in the crypto market as the reason for methodically rightsizing business. The adjustment prompted Hive to reduce the machines from the initial 13000 units ordered.
