Hot Topics on Crypto Twitter Over the Past Seven Days

Even though the entire market was in the red last week, crypto Twitter appeared unbothered. Instead, a series of other topics took center stage.

On Monday, crypto enthusiast and lawyer (@MetaLawMan) took to Twitter to call out the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) boss Gary Gensler for the agency’s unpopular regulation-by-enforcement approach. MetaLawMan also wondered why it had taken the SEC over eight years to determine whether Ether is a security.

On the same day, another lawyer Lisa Rubin tweeted about the SEC’s lawsuit against Terraform Labs, the developer behind the fallen algorithmic stablecoin UST. Rubin said the regulator was treating UST as a security merely because it could be exchanged for other securities.

Blockchain Observer Reveals Attack on Algorand

On Tuesday, blockchain observer (@bradley-nelsonZachXBT) broke the news regarding a multimillion-dollar exploit on Algorand. He tweeted that over 19 ALGO worth $9.3 million had been stolen between February 19 and 21.

That same day, the blockchain observer also commented on (@IvorIgamberdiev) tweet, which accused trading company Jane Street Group of playing a big role in the collapse of UST. ZachXBT concurred and claimed that he had messaged Terraform Labs CEO Do Kwon explaining how the trading firm contributed to UST’s downfall.

On Wednesday, crypto exchange Coinbase launched a political crypto lobby initiative dubbed ‘Crypto 453’, which seeks to guide lawmakers toward establishing pro-crypto policies.

Later that day, Dogecoin developer Billy Markson replied to a tweet from MicroStrategy chairman Michael Saylor arguing that if Bitcoin is not a security, neither is Dogecoin.

Did Visa Abandon Its Crypto Ambitions?

On Thursday, Visa’s director of crypto, Cuy Sheffield, tweeted in response to a Reuters article that claimed the payments giant was planning to halt its crypto push. Sheffield disputed the claims saying Visa will continue to partner with crypto companies to facilitate fiat on and off ramps.

On that day, the co-founder of the open-source blockchain developer toolkit Stackup, John Rising, expressed his excitement about the user-friendliness of the new Ethereum Improvement Proposal.

Finally, Twitter CEO and Dogecoin fan Elon Musk tweeted on Friday that lately, he has been more interested in artificial intelligence (AI) technology than crypto.
