Inventor Of WWW Says Web3 Does Not Require Blockchain Tech

The father and founder of the internet, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, has joined the web3 discussion. Berners-Lee is the founder of the WorldWideWeb (WWW).

Berners-Lee made a statement at the conference “The Next Web website”. He noted that the web3 vision does not meet his expectations.

This is because the vision of web3 is that it will use blockchain technology. However, the WorldWideWeb founder thinks otherwise.

Hence, he has been working on a web3 project. This project will not require blockchain tech and will be a decentralized internet.

This decentralized structure will give the users control over their data. They will choose who will have access to it. For a long time, the WWW inventor has argued that the WWW needs to be decentralized.

Berners-Lee’s Ambition For The Project Solid

The father of the internet has been on a project for several years. The project is called ‘Project Solid.’ Berners-Lee will use open specifications and essential web tools to build the project

Furthermore, this project will save users’ private information in a data store called pods. The pods are decentralized data storage sites. The user can host it anywhere they want.

Afterwards, they can choose the applications which will have permission to access it. Additionally, Berners-Lee noted that this project would offer privacy, scalability, speed, and interoperability.

According to the famous inventor, Solid has two primary purposes. The first is to stop firms from misusing user data for illegal purposes. Also, it will stop the generation of click baits and the manipulation of votes.

The second purpose is to provide ways users can benefit from their information. So, users can share health care data with trusted services.

Also, this would improve the treatment of patients and provide data for more medical research. Berners-Lee noted that:

“I wanted a situation where I could solve all sort of problems. We would be able to make use of information from various individuals no matter the distance. All we need is to connect to one another using the internet. That was my dream for the World Wide Web. Meanwhile, it turns out most people use it for publishing content. However, it still serves some of its purpose.”

Cryptocurrency World Forays

The WWW inventor is not alien to the cryptocurrency industry. Last July, an NFT was sold at an auction for over $5.43 million. It had the WWW first source code.

Also, the NFT had the unique time-stamped file that Berners-Lee wrote in 1989. This was when he was parking at the CERN lab. Unfortunately, the company at that time rejected his idea and called it vague.

Despite the rejection from CERN, Berners-Lee stayed optimistic. He wrote the protocols and implementation of 3 languages. In the end, it turned out to be 9,555 lines of source code. This later became the internet.
