Roblox Scaling the Metaverse and Virtual Platforms

Roblox’s journey began this year, hosting the in-game concert featuring K-pop band NCT 127. The idea arose in 2022 when K-pop Sunmi and Stray Kids facilitated the development of Spotify’s Roblox Island. It featured meet-and-greet events, virtual merchandise, and music production tools.

The journey features Blackpink emerging victorious in the pioneer Best Metaverse Performance award. The 2022 MTV VMAs event lauded their collaborative input alongside PUBG Mobile, a known royale shooter.

The award recognized their collaboration with the Zepeto metaverse platform based in South Korea. Zepeto is scaling into the nonfungible tokens (NFT) by unveiling the ZTX platform on the Ethereum scaling network Abritrum.

Following its presence in reputable global virtual concerts, K-pop randomly emerges as a standard fixture within the metaverse space. The virtual events occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic alongside breakout entities such as BTS and Twice. Its emergence during the period allowed it to secure a global online audience, considering that BTS featured in the Minecraft and Fortnite games.

South Korea Government Supports Metaverse Projects

The move by Blackpink has the blessings of Korean government support, evident in its $170 million investment towards metaverse projects in 2022. The launch of Roblox Metaverse hardly surprises K-pop fans. All members of the four-piece Aesoa have virtual counterparts used within music videos and metaverse-based performances.
