Wirex, the London-based cryptocurrency card issuer has been granted another principal member status. According to an official press release of Wirex issued today on the 22nd of December, the leading payments firm has gained the principal membership of the famous financial services company Visa in Europe. Prior to this, the payment company was already granted the principal membership of MasterCard back in the month of July.
Wirex Now Can Issue Visa Cards
It is a remarkable achievement for Wirex to get principal membership from the global payment company. With the addition of the company into Visa’s European network, Wirex has now got permission to issue Visa cards on its own. This principal membership of Visa will also let Wirex offer its customers new products and apply for licenses.
The Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wirex Pavel Matveev said that to receive principal membership from Visa was not an “easy feat”. However, with the achievement of this membership, the company has now got multiple opportunities to move forward with the creation of “a revolutionary product”. Adding more to it, Matveev said that it is becoming possible for them to provide “straight and cost-effective solutions for utilizing crypto in the every day” with the help of financial services firms such as Visa.
As a part of this membership, Visa is giving the users of Wirex an opportunity to use cryptocurrencies with its 61 million merchants. Visa and Wirex have already been collaborating with each other.
The Senior Director and Head of Cryptocurrency at Visa Cuy Sheffield said that they are delighted to collaborate with Wirex and providing its clients the opportunity to use crypto assets across a wide range of merchants. Sheffield said:
“Digital currencies have the potential to extend the value of digital payments to a greater number of people and places. We’re excited to work with innovative Fintechs like Wirex and enable their customers to use digital currencies at more than 61 million merchants on the Visa network.”
Prior to granting principal membership to Wirex, Visa has issued debit cards of this payment platform and they are accessible to users across Asia and Europe.
