Mangoes in Australia Can Be Tracked with Blockchain Program

After a pilot program spanning 2.5 years, Manbulloo will be capable of improving the use of its blockchain tech solution for boosting the traceability in the supply chain. This was announced by the Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia (CRCNA), which entered into a partnership with a traceability software firm called Trust Provenance, along with Manbullo for conducting a test. The test had been for a supply chain management program, one that was spread across the supply chains and distribution centers of Queensland and the Northern Territory. The project had been launched back in 2018 and had utilized sensors that had been placed in mango crates for tracking the fruit’s movement.

Not only did the sensor keep track of the movement of the mangoes, but also monitored the temperature, humidity, along with their transit time. The Senator of the Northern Territory, Dr. Sam McMahon also commented about this project. He elaborated that Manbulloo was now capable of tracking the fruits and identifying their location all over the supply chain. He also stated that it was possible to accomplish this in real-time and would be immensely helpful. The blockchain program would be used for maintaining a proactive level of quality control and quality assurance.

Through this blockchain technology, McMahon said that it would become possible to address any issues immediately and it also complemented the approach taken by Manbulloo, which has already become the top one in the entire industry. McMahon also stated that this program was going to be a game-changer for the whole of the Australian mango industry. Blockchain company Trust Provenance was founded by Andrew Grant and he said that now that the system has been scaled up, it will be able to play a vital role in the distribution of mangoes all over the country. According to Grant, it would be able to accomplish this by highlighted the exact inefficiencies of the supply chain and reducing the waste as a whole.

The CRCNA had raised more than $827,000 for the testing phase of this particular blockchain program, which ran for a total of 2.5 years and had been launched back in 2018 in the month of April. Other companies have already made use of blockchain technologies for the purpose of keeping track of the food supply chain. Previously, it was reported that it was possible to potentially track food items worth $300 billion throughout the supply chain on a yearly basis in a matter of seven years.

The chief executive officer of the CRNCA, Jed Matz, also shed some light on this blockchain program. He said that this particular project would have a far greater impact rather than just being limited to the mango industry. In his opinion, it wouldn’t be long before this project would be expanded to other supply chain systems, along with agricultural products. Ultimately, the demonstrated efficiencies of blockchain technology and this particular project would also benefit other industries by helping them eliminate their own problems.
