New Mining Fortune: Bitcoin Mining Revives Texan Town

A small town in Texas is about to get a new lifeline from mining activities, just as the previous century’s mining boom gave birth to hundreds of towns across the state. This time, however, it is a different type of mining activity that will turn the town’s fortunes around: Mining for bitcoins. Some of the most powerful bitcoin miners in the United States have relocated to Rockdale, a small town in Texas.

Bitcoin miners are now erecting mining equipment in the town’s old aluminum smelting plant in order to mine the world’s most valuable digital currency.

Rockdale holds the world record for having the largest aluminum smelting plant. Alcoa, which left the plant in 2008, was in charge of it. Following Alcoa’s departure, mining and smelting operations were drastically reduced, and the plant’s energy facility was effectively wasted due to inactivity. But all of that is about to change.

Riot Blockchain and Bitdeer, two of the largest bitcoin mining companies in the United States, are now leading a new wave of bitcoin miners who will take advantage of Rockdale’s cheap electricity to mine bitcoin. Riot Blockchain is a publicly traded mining company, and Bitdeer is a subsidiary of Bitmain, a Chinese bitcoin mining firm.

The low-cost electricity available in Rockdale is only one aspect of the area’s favorable conditions. Rockdale is an ideal location for large-scale Bitcoin miners due to factors such as the availability of large, abandoned but usable industrial complexes, large plots of land, and crypto-friendly policies and politicians.

The small town, which has a population of only 5,600 people, is set in a beautiful setting and evokes the nostalgia of older mining towns. Miners will be able to relive the emotions of the gold and aluminum mining era, but computers and advanced mining rigs will do the heavy lifting this time.

Texans Are Crypto-Friendly Politicians

Texas may be the only state with the most politicians who support cryptocurrency and Bitcoin mining. Senator Ted Cruz, a Texan, proposed last month that the government use gas flares to power Bitcoin mining operations in West Texas. Cruz argued that it was a good way to turn a squandered fortune into a fortune.

Similarly, Rockdale Mayor John King expressed his support for Bitcoin mining in the state. Bitcoin mining, he claims, is a safer and more beneficial way to use excess electricity that would otherwise be wasted. He also declared a mutual relationship between cryptocurrency miners in the state and the Texas local grid operator.

Bitcoin mining is becoming more popular.

Riot Blockchain announced that it has expanded its mining capacity by establishing 100,000 mining rigs in Rockdale. Riot stated that the facility is now mining more than 500 BTC per month. This is consistent with predictions of increased mining activity as a result of bitcoin’s recent strong bullish trend. Senator Cruz’s claims that Bitcoin mining is a good way to capture waste energy and make a fortune from it may be justified.
