Chainalysis – a blockchain analytics platform – organized a survey comprising the public agencies, pointing out the need for superior instruments, training, as well as support for the investigations dealing with cryptocurrency.

Chainalysis Survey Uncovers the Need for Public Agencies to Obtain Better Equipment for Crypto Investigation

The Chainalysis examined the subject in the State of Cryptocurrency Investigations Survey this year, in which the respondents’ 74% highlighted that their institutions were ill-equipped in the matter of examining the criminal operations related to the crypto sphere. More than 300 participants of the survey throughout 183 organizations within the public sector of Canada and the United States were polled by Chainalysis to reveal the successes and difficulties undergone by them while operating in this sector.

A huge number of the survey members brought to the front that their investigations were compatible with the crypto world and that their platforms would invest additional resources in this respect. Notwithstanding the central position of crypto in a few investigations, a majority of the respondents acknowledged that this sector has the chance to positively progress the financial environment and refuted the proposition that the chief use case of cryptocurrencies was criminal activities.

Chainalysis disclosed that the advancement in the lawful usage of cryptocurrency is well ahead of its utilization for malicious practices. Even then, the proportion of its use in illegal activities is substantial in terms of USD that the agencies need to be ready to carry out the investigations. In the words of the respondents, expert investigators and analysts are present in their institutions with prestige in crypto investigations.

Continuously Transforming Crypto  Space Bother Public Agencies

In addition to this, the survey noted that several agencies are those that do not utilize the instruments specified for blockchain analysis, and 74% of the survey members consider that their platforms have the tools needed for the respective investigations. This has been described as the main issue by Chainalysis as the industry is evolving constantly. The survey referred to the recent transformation of services from centralized to decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, comprising complicated structures for investigation.

As the survey puts it, if these institutions are not efficient enough in their crypto investigations at the moment then there are chances for gaps to take place in their knowledge about the ever-growing business technology, leading to their failure in tackling the criminals involved in manipulating the crypto sector on regular basis.
