Paris Hilton Pitches NFTs to Microsoft Billionaire, Bill Gates

It is no news that celebrities are catching NFT fever, which seems to be spreading like wildfire across the global crypto community. Socialite and American businesswoman, Paris Hilton is no exception. Hilton is still basking in the frenzy that non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have generated and wants Microsoft billionaire, Bill Gates to join her and share in the rave.

According to reports, the businesswoman offered an invitation to Bill Gates for him to feature on her podcast, so they could, as she put it, ‘take turns to explain things.’ As of press time, the Microsoft billionaire was yet to respond to Hilton’s offer. It does not seem likely that Gates will honor her invitation, as he may still be reeling from the effects of the divorce between himself and his wife, Melinda.

Paris Hilton Goes Crazy on Non-fungible Tokens

Hilton had appeared on ‘The Tonight Show,’ where she spoke extensively about non-fungible tokens alongside the show’s host, Jimmy Fallon. Speaking at the show, Hilton adopted a unique definition for NFTs, but not without pitching to Fallon asking him to sell one of his jokes as a token.

Snippets of the show had gone viral especially on social media platform, Twitter, where the crypto community on the platform likened Hilton’s NFT talk to a 1995 show between David Letterman and Bill Gates, where the latter explained ‘Internet’ to Letterman at a time that only 14% of US adults could access the WWW innovation.

Hilton Sells Debut NFT for $1.1 Million

Hilton’s journey into the NFT space has been eventful, with a record-breaking sale of $1.1 million after launching her first NFT. In July, she partook in one of the funding rounds of emerging NFT marketplace, Origin Protocol. Prior to this, she issued a detailed post about NFTs while also noting that they were democratizing the art industry. Hilton added that she was also keen about flagship cryptocurrency, Bitcoin.

Similarly, the sales of other NFTs have been hitting the roofs with collectibles like 24×24 8-bit NFT, CryptoPunks already attaining a shocking floor price of $240,000. Although Bill Gates is still a billionaire, he does not seem prepared to spend a whopping $240k on an NFT.

Besides, Bill Gates is not exactly a staunch believer in cryptocurrencies. Until February, his views against Bitcoin were antagonistic. Gates adopted a neutral stance earlier this year, perhaps after seeing that Bitcoin had done a 500% increase since 2018. However, he maintained that he still does not own Bitcoin.

Gates’s opinion about Bitcoin does not end there. He has also reiterated the enviromental concerns surrounding Bitcoin mining, and stated that Bitcoin consumed so much electricity. Since NFTs, when minted and encoded on the blockchain, consume electricity, Bill Gates is sure not to give Hilton’s offer any consideration.

Meanwhile, popular American rapper, Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) made a debut entry into the space after releasing a tokenized version of 1996 maiden album, which he sold for $24,000.
