SOCIETY2 launched a decentralized social network where users can control their privacy and data. The network is built on the IOTA’s blockchain that will give 100% freedom to users in terms of security, privacy, and revenue. SOCIETY2 unveiled its plan of DLT-based social network on May 2, giving an alternative to centralized social platforms. The main agenda of the SOCIETY2 is to “enable choice and control for social media users.”
Alternative to Centralized Social Platforms
Social platforms have now become an important part of our life, and the interaction between the content creators and the audience cannot live up without these social networking sites. But some social monarchies have been established, such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and many others. They are controlling users’ data without their permission. Even, they can block your account with no clear explanation. For example, recently, YouTube started targeting crypto channels and also banned some of them. These concerns have led people to create a social network where central authority will have no role at all.
Keeping in view the users’ needs and requirements, SOCIETY2 developed decentralized social networks (DeSM) on the Distributed Ledger technology of IOTA. SOCIETY2 claimed,” We aim to put control of personal data, social media content and communication back into the hands of those who have lost it to internet and social media oligopolies.”
SOCIETY2 is basically a social network framework on which creators can move from one platform to the other without any difficulty. The monetization option will allow users to earn on watching and sharing content with no dependence on the third party at all. They have introduced “Micropayments” for the network where revenue generated will split respectively. The users will have only one identity Decentralized Identity (DID) that can be used on different social platforms.
Ben Royce, the head of development at SOCIETY2, said:
