Solana Announces Its Next Crypto Smartphone: Here is Everything You Should Know

Solana Labs’ subsidiary, Solana Mobile, has announced its second crypto smartphone after successfully launching the Saga Android-powered phone a few years ago. Known as Solana Seeker, the new smartphone was showcased last week at the Token2049 conference in Singapore.

While speaking at the event, Solana Mobile representatives said Seeker would be less complicated than Saga. Additionally, the device will have custody solutions for cryptocurrencies and support for decentralized applications.

When Will Solana Seeker Enter the Market?

Solana Mobile says Seeker will be available for sale in the second quarter of 2025. Notably, over 140,000 pre-orders have already been placed, according to the crypto company, which has produced only 20,000 units as of September 2024. Each household will be allowed to order up to five Seeker smartphones. Additionally, Solana Mobile has stated that the availability of its Android device in various countries will likely change based on demand.

How Much Does Solana Seeker Cost?

One of the main differences between Seeker and Saga is the price. When Saga launched, its starting price was $1,000. However, four months into the market, the phone saw its price lowered to $599 as Solana Mobile attempted to keep up with the stiff competition from tech giants like Samsung and Apple.

As for Seeker, the starting price has been set at $500. It is worth mentioning that Solana Mobile allowed customers to place pre-orders at $450 in the “Founder” window, which ended on Saturday.

Seeker’s Specs

In an X post, Solana Mobile revealed Seeker’s specifications and said the phone would be more pocketable and smaller than Saga. In terms of storage, Seeker will have a space of 128GB and 8GB of RAM. By comparison, Saga has 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage space.

It isn’t clear what Processor will be used to run Seeker. But if Solana Mobile adopts the one in Saga, the new smartphone will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 processor, which is exceptionally powerful.

Further, Seeker will come with upgraded cameras that boast 32-megapixel and 108-megapixel sensors. In comparison, Saga’s cameras have 12-megapixel and 50-megapixel sensors. Solana Mobile says it has decided to upgrade the cameras to make it easy for users to scan QR codes while connecting to decentralized apps or making transactions.

Regarding Seeker’s charging system, the phone will have a USB-C port like most smartphones in the market today. Also, its battery capacity will be higher than Saga’s. As for size, Seeker’s screen size will be 6.36″ with an AMOLED display, which Solana Mobile claims will make the phone’s screen brighter than Saga’s.

As mentioned, Seeker will have custody solutions. Its creator has partnered with popular crypto wallet Solflare to create an app that allows users to store and manage their digital currencies.

Solana Mobile Describes Seeker as “Airdrop Magnet”

When Saga launched, it did not see significant adoption until the prices of airdropped tokens to owners increased, exceeding the phone’s price at some point. Now, Solana Mobile says crypto projects are likely to airdrop tokens to Seeker owners, thus prompting the demand for the phone to surge.

The company says each Seeker owner will receive a free Genesis NFT, which will be used as a “pass” to access future airdrops.

Along with the expected rewards, Seeker’s maker has announced more benefits for anyone who buys the phone. One of them is a 120-day subscription to Helium’s wireless phone service. Furthermore, Seeker owners will have exclusive access to the Colony crypto game, which will be listed in Solana mobile’s Dapp store.

Created by Parallel Studios, Colony lives on the Solana blockchain. Besides capitalizing on blockchain technology, the game is AI-powered and rewards players with the PRIME token.

That said, Solana Mobile announced Tuesday morning that the “Early Adopter” window was now open. This period gives interested individuals an opportunity to pre-order Seeker at reduced prices. For more details, visit store.solanamobile.com.
