Soulja Boy (an American rapper) has earned multiple thousands of dollars from selling a series of tweets as NFTs. He claims to be the first rapper to achieve this feat. Yesterday at around 5.21 GMT, Soulja Boy had asked his followers on the bird app how he could sell his tweets. It is safe to assume he was asking how he could sell them as NFTs.

Soulja Boy Earns Almost $1,300 After A Few Hours

Some hours after asking that question, Soulja Boy made his first NFT sale of 0.07475 ETH (which is worth about #1,300). The Ethereum blockchain will store that signed digital representation, but the buyer will possess it. In the last few weeks, non-fungible tokens have been the talk of the town in the crypto ecosystem. However, despite its recent rise to fame, the concept of NFT isn’t new; it’s been around for some years. Four years ago, crypto kitties sold its cat-themed collectibles for about $500K. The deals involving these collectibles were so much that the whole Ethereum network was completely congested. That year marked a peak for NFTs, and not until now has there been a resurgence about it.

However, it would seem that a much higher number of people, especially celebrities, have caught on the bandwagon. This is evident in the amount of dollars these celebrities are selling some pieces of their art. While the NFT industry might still be in its budding stage, the total worth of digital art sold by the top-100 authors is almost $190 million.

Tweet Selling In The Ethereum Way

Soulja Boy’s announcement follows the bird app’s CEO post to sell his first tweet. After some ferocious biddings, the current bid is $2.5 million as of this writing. However, it seems jack Dorsey still wants more bids for his legendary tweet as he posted a cent’s link to sell his first-ever tweet. That cent-link tweet has amassed over 5K retweets and almost 1.8K replies. One of the responses is that of Tron CEO, Justin Sun who disclosed that he had updated his bid to $1m from the initial $500K. Despite agreeing to low bids like $5, the American rapper still sold five of his tweets as NFTs as of this moment.

He was even able to sell his recent tweet (which was about NFT) for $200. According to the valuables’ (the NFT network) website, only the tweet creator can decide to immortalize his content on the blockchain. If they agree, the winner of the bid will collect a digital certificate of the tweet. What makes this certificate unique is that the tweet creator will have to sign the tweet using his private key cryptographically.

Is It All Hype?

Two months ago, precisely, January 19, the rapper sought his followers’ opinion on the “best way” of purchasing crypto coins. But he made another tweet to confirm that he has made his first purchase.

Now, it seems Soulja Boy is more interested in the NFT scenery than just buying crypto coins. Apart from Soulja Boy, other celebrities looking to mint their NFTs include Mark Cuban, Lindsay Lohan, and Steve Aoki.
