Recently the education department of the US government came out with an initiative to put all students’ records across the country on the blockchain. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed many sectors of the country; hence to counter these conflicts, the government is pondering on the idea to introduce blockchain to provide foolproof systems for different sectors. An example of this strategy can be taken from the recent launch of the “education blockchain initiative”, also known as EBI.
This project is led by the American council on Deduction that helps the higher education sector to come up with efficient policies to produce productive results. The project will help students gain more control over their credentials, for example, their degrees and transcripts. This will cater to a hurdle-free transfer of schools which is a cumbersome process for many years as people often struggle to collect all the important documents.
Policy Under Consideration
However, the policy of transferring the credentials to a different school is still under consideration, the policy may not allow the document to transfer completely, and the previous institute may still have access to the papers. In addition to this, a “degree roadmap” will be provided to the students, which will help them construct a plan to transfer credits. This will create a new era of decentralization of data that will provide freedom to the credit holders.
Consequently, planning is one thing, and execution is another. These advanced policies will require hard work and consistent planning to get executed in the right manner. A recurring problem in the foreseeable future will be to create a demand for these blockchain systems to be implemented in institutions.
New Government And Change
According to Platz, Joe Biden and his new government are prone to bringing changes; therefore, the execution of the plans will be much easier. Meanwhile, the US is planning to execute the plan; it is noteworthy how many countries are already implementing these plans. Malta is one of the pioneers of this initiative as the government introduced that all education-related certificates like degrees and transcripts would be kept on a blockchain system.
In addition to this, MIT, also known as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has stated that they will issue blockchain-based certificates to their upcoming graduates- in 2017. However, the media lab of MIT stated that the blockchain is a breakthrough technology with a multitude of pros, but there are very few individuals that understand its importance and execution.
