The Kleiman Case continues

The lawsuit against Craig Wright was filed by the estate of Dave Kleiman in 2018. The charge against Craig Wright is that he defrauded 1.1 million bitcoins worth around $5 billion. This is the share of Dave Kleiman that Craig has allegedly stolen.

According to a legal document, the self-proclaimed Bitcoin inventor has been ordered by Judge Bruce to pay an amount of $165,000 in legal fees to the estate of Dave Kleiman.

Ira Kleiman’s Legal team asked for $658,581.78

The legal team of Ira Kleiman who is the brother of David Kleiman requested in the US court that Wright should pay $658,581.78 in legal fees. Kleiman’s lawyers also included the fees of attorneys and expenses as well.

However, the United States Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart refused the request made by the legal team of Kleiman saying that the requested amount is excessive and unreasonable. The Judge found these rates higher than the relevant rates of the market in Florida.

Therefore, Bruce Reinhart slammed Kleiman’s lawyers for demanding excessive legal fees according to the legal document. The Judge put out the extra expenses and made a sizeable bill. After removing some of the fees, Bruce Reinhart ordered Craig Wright to pay only 20% of the total amount requested by the Kleiman’s legal team.

Furthermore, the Judge said that there was no reason for three lawyers to spend time just reviewing the draft. “It was not reasonable to have three lawyers involved to this extent to review a daft a relatively straight-forward pleading”, the document reads.

Judge Bruce Reinhart also refused to rely on the documents provided to the court by Craig saying, “I decline to rely on this kind of document, which could easily have been generated by anyone with word processing software and a pen.”

However, no reaction has been seen from Craig Wright till now. Let’s see how Craig Wright and his lawyers react to this decision of the US court.
