US SEC Has Dismissed Claims Against John McAfee

On 5th October 2020, some allegations were raised on the behalf of the SEC against McAfee as well as Watson for reportedly promoting ICO investments on the social media platform “Twitter” without any disclosure of being paid in return for them.

The U.S.-based Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) acquired the conclusive decree for a promotion scheme of an initial coin offering (ICO) against McAfee (the late entrepreneur) as well as Jimmy Gale Watson, Jr. (his partner), submitted on 5th October on the same year. Watson was found guilty by the District Court of the United States for New York’s Southern District and became liable to pay a fine of up to $375, 934.86. Apart from this, Watson was prohibited from taking part in the operations dealing with the sale, offer, purchase, or issuance of ICOs.
