Renowned economist Nouriel Roubini (aka Dr Doom), due to his accurate prediction of the mortgage crisis of 2008-2009, has criticized CZ. He said he is “even more sleazy than Sam Bankman Fried.”
Roubini also attacked Dogecoin a few days ago, claiming that Elon Musk is the only reason it still exists. Earlier, during his onstage speech at ADGM’s Crypto Abu Dhabi event, Roubini called Binance CEO CZ a “sleazy character.” CZ notably gave a speech on the same platform as Roubini the day before.
Mike Novogratz, the creator of cryptocurrency company Galaxy Digital, was present when Roubini made scathing remarks about CZ. Earlier, the CEO of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange called Sam Bankman-Fried, an old friend turned bitter rival.
In the trillion-dollar cryptocurrency market, the collapse of FTX immediately tipped the balance of power. A credible source claimed that “[Zhao] made serious efforts to undermine FTT tokens” in what will become one of the biggest corporate attacks in history.
CZ has repeatedly maintained his stand of having no interest in acquiring and running FTX. However, interviews with former employees, business partners and industry colleagues create an image of a controversial entrepreneur with an unrelenting desire to grow at all costs.
Regarding its run-ins with regulatory bodies, Binance said, “We are continually working to improve and maintain regulatory compliance and account holder protection.”
Roubini Refuses To Criticize Binance CEO
In a later tweet, the Economist claimed he didn’t disparage CZ in his onstage comments. However, he explained to UAE authorities that Binance is banned in the UK, and the US Department of Justice is investigating this exchange concerning money laundering allegations.
“I did not criticize CZ. I only questioned why the UAE should approve an exchange that has been banned or under investigation from regulators in other places.” The controversial crypto exchange also received operating approval from Abu Dhabi’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA).
